Agnes of God (2016)Renaissance Theaterworks

"The Truth is in the Gloaming: 'Because it is a play of the mind, and miracles,' Pielmeier writes of "Agnes," 'it is a play of light and shadows.' That's exactly what lighting designer Alan Piotrowicz delivers, softening the harsh, white-and-black divisions seen in the set and worn by the nuns. Piotrowicz makes clear that nothing is clear, thereby illustrating the similarly murky shadow play in these characters' minds — while hearkening back to an older, literally darker world, in which there was more room for mystery."

FUN FACT: Alan has rarely designed shows more than once, but he has designed West Side Story twice (2007 and 2019), Macbeth three times (2012, 2015, and 2021), and two different productions of A Christmas Carol for a combined eleven times! (That includes annually from 2009 to 2017 and again in 2021 for Falls Patio Players, and once in NYC in 2014 with TITAN Theatre Company.) He also designed A Midsummer Night's Dream for TITAN in both 2013 and 2014, and then directed a production for Village Playhouse in 2015.
